Kleifaheidi 413m

Next to Halfdan, in the immediate vicinity, lies the slightly lower Kleifaheidi in the impressive backdrop of Iceland's Westfjords. Here, too, there is a fairly short, steep climb. On the way to the pass, the ‘Kleifabui’, a metre-high stone figure, awaits cyclists.

Start: Patreksfjördur 7m
Altitude gain: 406m
Distance: 7km
August 2025

Short profile

Start at the end of Patreksfjord, again with a wobbly gear mechanism, just like the day before.

This sign with the key data for the climb is on the other side of the pass.

The climb is steep but enjoyable. As I don't like using my gears, this results in involuntarily high wattage values on the climb.

Waterfall by the side of the road, as everywhere in the Westfjords

Unfortunately, the weather conditions are difficult again today. Fortunately, however, it is quite calm.

The clouds are not as low as the day before, so the views are more impressive. Here is the view back to Patreskfjord.

At the very back, right in the centre of the picture, the tall stone figure comes into view.

The Kleifabui is about four metres high and has stood here in the rugged Icelandic mountains for more than 75 years.

Another beautiful view back

And then you stand on the unmarked pass summit. The highest points on Icelandic passes can usually be recognised by the technical equipment for measuring wind speed that stands there.
